You have to consider 1.20£ is 100 and find the percentage of 57 pence. So it should come as .57 as 1.20 has 2 decimal points. you divide 57 by 120 and multiply by 100.

57/120x100 =47.5%

you would take 52, divide it by 1.20 and multiple it by 100.

First you need to write the 57p so it is in the same form as the £1.20. Therefore the 57p would be written as 0.57.

Then you need to write 0.57/1.20 (0.57 divided by 1.20) to work out what 0.57 is as a proportion of 1.20. The answer to this is 0.475.

Finally, you multiply 0.475 by 100 to give the final percentage. 0.475 x 100 = 47.5.

So, 57p as a percentage of £1.20 is 47.5%.

First make sure we use the same units! Convert £1.20 into 120p

Second 57 divided by 120 is 0.475

Multiply by 100 to get a percentage = 47.5%

Hi, I would set this out:

1.20 = 100% , therefore 1% = 0.012

I would then do: 0.57/0.012 = 47.5%

£1.20= 120p

hence 57p = 47.5% of £1.20 as 57/120 X100= 47.5%

57p divided by 120p (£1.20) will give you the answer in decimals which is 0.457, multiply by 100 for the answer in percentage: (57/120) x 100 = 47.5%

Percentage comes from "per cent" meaning out of hundred.

So you want the answer as a number less than hundred.

1) you first change the numbers into the same unit (pence) so £1.20 becomes 120p

2) you put the numbers into a fraction as 57/120

3) this gives you 0.475

4) to change this into a percentage, the final step is to multiply by 100 to give 47.5%

Firstly, we need to convert £1.20 into pence, so 120p, then we simply type in the calculator 57/120 *100

Hi Miss Ryan!

Lets begin by remembering what a percentage is? A percentage can be a portion of an amount. If we have 100% of an amount then we have the full amount. For example if we have 100% of a chocolate bar then all the chocolate is ours. If we have 50% of a bar then we have half the chocolate bar because 50 is half of 100. We can use this equation to help solve the question

Here are a number of steps I would use to find the percentage:

  1. Multiply £1.20 by 100 - giving us the amount in pence - 120p is what we get.
  2. 57/120 will give us a decimal which can be changed to percentage in a next step.
  3. We will multiply 57/120 by 100 which will give us 47.5%

You need to convert both amounts into either pounds or pence. I will choose pence and then divide 57p by 120p and multiply the answer by 100.

First turn the money into a fraction - we want to find 57/120 which is 0.455.

We then multiply that by 100 to find the percentage - 0.455 x 100 = 45.5%

A quick way to solve this puzzle is to divide 57 by 120, and then times by 100.

So, (57/120)*100 = 47.5.

57 is therefore 47.5% of 120.

To elaborate, we have to view £1.20 as 100% in this equation.

Then, we can use 'x' to represent the value that we're looking for.

So:

100% = 120

x% = 57

Therefore

100% / x% is the same as 120/57.

Then, take the inverse:

x% / 100% is the same as 57/120.

Then take the 100% to the RHS (Right hand side) and you have:

x% = (57/120)*100 = 47.5
