A bit about Ian J

I scaffold my lessons and build the learning around the learner. For example, if we were learning about column addition, I would start you off with some fun activities about place value. We might then move on to some interesting activities on exchange (using a place value grid). I would see how that went for, then we would begin our column addition tasks. I use a technique called "I do, we do, you do" to support learning. For example, I would do our first sum to show the learner what to do. We would do the next one together. Then the learner would have a go at doing one on their own. This is a great way to keep learning fun and interesting because there are a lot of places to recognise success. There are also plenty of opportunities for me to adapt the lesson and check everything is happening at a comfortable pace.
