Experienced, friendly, and flexible Biology tutor
You can book a free 20 minute, no-commitment introduction with any of our tutors. How does this work?
Hello everyone! :) I'm a 3rd year PhD student in Food and Biological Sciences at the University of Reading. I'm also a hall mentor at the University of Reading. In this job, I basically offer welfare support to students living in halls and struggling with their studies, or with mental health issues
My background includes a five-year work experience as a private tutor in Biology and Chemistry for high-school students in my home country, and a one-year volunteering experience as a ballet and English teacher for young refugees in my hometown as part of a program that addressed the young refugees’ well-being. As for my work experience in the UK; I have experience as a laboratory demonstrator for the "Food Analysis " graduate course at the University of Reading. I also worked as an academic study skills mentor, which included working closely with a number of allocated high-school students to help them develop the study skills required to be successful at university.
I believe that the most rewarding part of any teaching role is to be able to build meaningful connections with your students, and see them grow not only academically, but also on a personal level. Most of all, I like my lessons to be interesting and intellectually stimulating for students by making them as interactive as possible. Although I always aim to adjust my teaching style and accommodate it according to each student's needs, I strongly believe that student-centred teaching; or giving my students voice, choice, and autonomy to take control of their own learning is the best approach to help them achieve their learning goals. I look forward to a meaningful teaching experience and to inspiring your learning with my passion for both Biology and Chemistry :)
Most of my students have shown appreciation for my friendly and enthusiastic nature, and how comfortable I make them feel during our lessons. They also appreciate how interactive my lessons are, and that I teach Biology with a passion.
Yara has great subject knowledge. The lesson was well structured and engaging. I now feel much more confident in my understanding of the topic.
