A bit about Raiy P

I have been teaching Key Stage 3, GCSE English language and literature (AQA) for 4 years. I also have experience tutoring English at the primary level in preparation for entrance exams. I have helped numerous students improve their predicted grade by 2 or more grades. As your tutor, I will take my time to get to know you, so that I can tailor the lesson to suit your individual needs and preferred method of learning. I strive to make my lessons engaging for you, so that not only will your skill level improve, but you will enjoy the lesson content too. I will break the content down to help you fully grasp concepts, and adapt the pace of the lessons and curriculum to help you reach your full potential. I am encouraging, patient and kind and I love watching my students grow and succeed. I have always loved reading - I was that child staying up past midnight with a torch under the covers reading a Malorie Blackman book. As I got older, I realised why literature is so powerful. There is power in stories and the perspectives they share. Words in literature can change the way people think; they can give people hope and motivation. I love to uncover the underlying meaning of a story, through the words, sentences, characters and plot lines. I love how literature can help you learn more about who you are, or uncover truths about humanity. Reading has so many benefits and I love to share that with my students. I have a BA Degree in English (2:1) and a Master of Arts in Teaching (1st) with QTS. I also have a TEFL certification. I have taught English language and literature at Key Stage 3 and 4 level for 4 years. I have tutored students in English at the primary level in preparation for ISEB and school-specific entrance exams. I have also taught English as a foreign language for 1 year. I believe that all students have the ability to succeed in and enjoy English given the right tools. Literature can be intimidating and overwhelming, but if it is broken down appropriately, anyone can become confident in the topic. I believe in patience and second chances when it comes to teaching, but I will always hold my students to a high standard so they reach their full potential.
