A fun and friendly primary school teacher
You can book a free 20 minute, no-commitment introduction with any of our tutors. How does this work?
Hello! My name is Elizabeth and I am a primary school teacher from Brighton. I qualified five years ago after doing a Primary PGCE at The University of Sussex. For the past year and a half I have taught year 1. I have also had my own year 3 and year 5 classes in the past, as well as having worked as a supply teacher from nursery age to year 6 in London and Sussex. Apart from teaching, my interests include drawing and graphic design, crochet, visiting theme parks and playing with my kittens!
I have a degree in Drama and Creative Writing and have also worked as a copywriter, so I particularly enjoy teaching reading, writing and phonics. I make lessons fun and practical by using rhymes, songs and games. I can help your child prepare for the phonics screening test and support them systematically to improve their reading skills.
My speciality is teaching infants - aged 5-7 - but I can teach any age and any subject at primary school level. Everyone is different so I will always try a range of approaches to find the best way to engage individuals and I always start with warm up games before moving on to bigger challenges. I have worked with children from a diverse range of backgrounds and I feel that my calm and caring nature and use of positive praise is very effective in helping my pupils to progress.
When teaching a new topic I will first create a 'cold task' to assess your child’s prior knowledge and identify areas to focus on. Then I will plan a unit of work and at the end, create a 'hot task' to assess the good progress they have made. As a teacher, I have access to many teaching and assessment materials and have lots of ideas for making my own (I'm quite crafty!). I can also provide guidance based on the curriculum and what is expected of your child at their stage of schooling.
I am passionate about tutoring as it gives me the opportunity to provide that one-to-one support that I know children need but is so difficult to offer when teaching a class of 30! Whether your child needs help with homework or something specific, or they just need some extra advice and practice in a particular area, I am here to help!
Elizabeth’s lesson was based on her professional knowledge as a teacher and very useful. She prepared very well and provided several efficient online materials for my daughter. Thank you very much for the high quality lesson.
