A bit about Sarah S

I am a conscientious tutor, with fifteen years of experience allowing me to be confident and flexible in my teaching approach. I have a great understanding of AQA exam board and Cambridge I GCSE. I am committed to inclusive education, empowering my students to achieve their goals through carefully tailored, interactive,interesting sessions. I am specialist in English language and English literature tuition. I have experience as a GCSE examiner. I have taught a variety of texts but in particular: Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, The Tempest, A Midsummer Night's Dream, An Inspector Calls, Power and Conflict poetry, A Christmas Carol, Great Expectations and Frankenstein. I plan my lessons using a structured approach, with an end goal/achievement to work towards. I respond instantly to the needs of my students offering pertinent feedback and support as needed. I often change lesson plans to accommodate the learning progress of my students and tailor each session to suit their requirements and progress. I first started tutoring in university, volunteering to support students in different school settings. I have continued tutoring throughout my teaching career and really enjoy supporting students in a one to one capacity. I love the variety my subject (English) provides. I enjoy explaining and exploring writer's viewpoints in a variety of texts. I particularly like exploring language and how words provide a mirror to the world. My teaching style is natural, I know my subject and I am always well prepared. I enjoy expanding on ideas using real examples and motivations. I believe good communication is of paramount importance in every session, listening to the student and responding to their learning needs by providing them with honest feedback and supportive encouragement. Being a tutor allows me to share my enthusiasm for learning. To support and encourage students to continue to learn and to develop inquisitive minds, willing to explore the world around them. Using my teaching experience and work in schools I am well suited to support students in a tutor capacity. I have an excellent understanding of assessment rubrics, I tailor sessions to work alongside the learning in schools. My teaching philosophy is that every student has limitless potential- there is always opportunity to learn. I build positive professional relationships through effective communication and understanding. I treat all students equally. I want them all to achieve their best. Each session is a chance to learn and grow as an individual. My students love that I listen to them, I hear what they say and I am able to respond appropriately to best help them succeed. I fo not judge or belittle ny students, I create a calm, positive learning environment. All my success in teaching is down to the hard work of my students. Their success ismy success. I have helped many students overcome personal barriers, to enable them to achieve their full potential. I have Qualified Teacher Status, and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education for Secondary English. I also hold a master's degree in education. My own experience growing up and being supported by wonderful teachers made me want to do the same for other students. I also had a friend who had such a terrible time at school that they had confidence issues in adulthood. This made me realise that not every school experience is great. I wanted to change that, and create a great school experience for the students I taught. Outside of teaching I have many interests a few being: reading books, watching real life documentaries, buying new books, travelling around the country/world, discovering new cuisine, listening to live music, listening to music and yoga.
