I have lived in the Ascot area for over 20 years and have 2 sons who have now left university. My undergraduate degree was in Maths at Aston University and I studied for a PhD at Reading University. Since leaving university I formed and run a computer company for 27 years and have since formed and run 2 successful businesses. For the last 15 years I have been tutoring Maths both face to face and online to over 50 students from GCSE to university level.
I specialise in AS and A level Maths. I concentrate on finding the gaps in a students knowledge, bringing them up to date with their syllabus, and hopefully pushing them beyond their current schedules.
I like to work with the knowledge students have on a subject and then build from there. With maths it is at times necessary to re-visit the fundamentals - these can be forgotten as time passes. I have a wealth of information sheets and tips covering the various topics on the syllabus and make use of past papers to prepare students for their exams. I like to discover a students strengths and weaknesses early on and believe my experience helps me with that.
My sons were predicted B and C grades at A-level. I managed to tutor them and they both achieved grade A's. This rather strange success started my career in Maths tutoring over 12 years ago. I did however lecture Maths at Reading University around 1980.
Those LIGHT BULB moments when students discover the gaps in both their advanced and basic Maths knowledge ! I consider myself calm, patient and supportive with students. Lessons are structured to and tailored to meet the student's needs and include a variety of hands on material and varied learning styles. I have built up a vast wealth of teaching resources.

The many genuinely grateful feedback responses I receive along with discovering students have achieved a higher grade than expected.
Each student is different and everyone learns in their own unique way. I use multiple methods of teaching to reach students, so that no one is left behind. I pride myself in being able to discover a students weaknesses very quickly. Most importantly I try to make lessons fun and relate where possible the topics to the real world.
I believe I am very patient and introduce some fun and excitement into a subject that people generally do not get over enthusiastic about, especially when have run into brick walls, which there are many of in Maths !
I remember 2 special moments in my career: 1 - A university student who 6 weeks before finals had given up on his Maths module. After 6 intense lessons I was delighted to hear he had achieved a first class honours ! 2 - An A-level student who was predicted a C in Maths and was unable to secure a university place. She achieved an A after around 8 hours of tuition and subsequently went on to achieve a good degree at university.
