Hi! My name is Poppy, and I recently graduated from Balliol College, Oxford, with a First Class Hons. in English Language and Literature. I’ve always loved reading, and English was always the lesson I looked forward to most in the school day; I remember how formative early experiences with literature could be in the classroom, and want to inspire other pupils to pursue literature with the same passion! I was lucky enough to attend Cheltenham Ladies’ College from 11-18, before going on to Oxford in 2017; both experiences have, I hope, armed me well for understanding what great teaching consists of, how to tap into people’s interests in the often tricky subject of English, and how to achieve success by finding something you love about a text.
I have regularly tutored over 20 individual students, with subjects from GCSE English Language and Literature to IB English HL. I understand that everyone has different styles and approaches, and so I tailor my lessons to the specific needs of my students. Sometimes we'll be covering the basics of literary analysis, and sometimes we'll be doing intense exam prep to get you up to speed and in line for a great mark!
I have absolutely loved helping all my pupils with their work. The top success stories are sometimes huge achievements - one student got an offer for Oxford based on my ELAT and personal statement help - and sometimes fantastic moments of progress, like when one of my local students smashed his Macbeth exam.
