Tell us a bit about yourself.

I have been fortunate to teach at all levels from GCSE to Master’s. Benefiting from 30 years in industry and having lived and worked overseas, gives me a unique perspective which facilitates my ability to apply experiential examples and real world examples to academic doctrines and principles. Throughout my practice is imbibed with a concern for the individual learning journey and that it must be as enriching and positive as possible.

What do you specialise in?

My specialist areas are economics, law, accounting and business finance. I have a law degree (LLB) and an MSc in Finance. I have aught all these subject areas from GCSE to degree level. Indeed I’ve taught Financial Economics to Master’s level. I am a Cambridge Examiner for A level Economics, Accounting and GCSE Law

How do your lessons usually plan out?

I plan sessions with the specific learner in mind and any questions or difficulties they are experiencing. Before a session I carefully research the syllabus and learning outcomes the learner is studying and then tailor the session accordingly. In each session, I set aside time for the learner to complete some form of assessed work and build into the session some means of stretching the learning, pertinent to the specific learning outcomes.

When did you first start tutoring?

I began tutoring 12 years ago in a further education college, teaching A-Level and BTEC Courses. From the outset I found teaching to be the most rewarding and challenging thing I’d ever done. In time this enthusiasm has remained undimmed indeed it has increased, especially as I have in recent years moved into online learning which especially suits my teaching style.

What do you love most about teaching your subject?

I love introducing and delivering in an intelligible and digestible form, what many people find to be highly abstract and complicated subject area’s. This could be the finer points of monetary policy in economics, the concept of rule of law, the doctrines of financial investment or the intricacies of the accounting equation.

What is your favourite thing about being a tutor?
