A bit about James M

Hi! My name is James and I am a GCSE and/or A level tutor working out of Brighton. I have 2 years experience teaching British Curriculum Biology in the United Arab Emirates to both English natives and ESL students. I worked specifically for the Advanced Science Program wherein the focus of this `Elite` curriculum was to prepare students for STEM subjects at University. Despite specifically having covered GCSE and A level curriculums, I can be an `any level` tutor for Secondary School students. I am especially familiar with Edexcel, AQA and OCR exam boards! I have previously earned a MSci Biology and Marine Biology degree from the University of Southampton and am looking to continue my education in September 2021 by going to study Veterinary Medicine. So in addition to tutoring for Biology, I am happy to share my experiences and provide insight and help into the university application process, as well as what studying a Biology related subject at university is like and what sort of experiences you can expect! In my experience as a teacher, I have realized that the relationships you have with your students are the most motivating things to drive learning, so I really look forward to meeting you and hopefully showing you how fun Biology can actually be! I specialize in all things Biology. I hold my Master's degree in Biology and Marine Biology and am especially interested in Ecology and Natural History. I have previously worked for numerous conservation charities in South Africa and am a qualified FGASA Field Guide. At University I completed my Bachelors dissertation on Deep Sea fish species and my Masters dissertation on Tropical Montane Bird Species in Malaysia. I have recently taken a great interest in Cellular Biology and Epidemiology as I prepare to go study Veterinary Medicine! My teaching philosophy has developed over the last two years while teaching at a school in the United Arab Emirates. Learning is always difficult and requires a huge amount of self-motivation. I really try my best to really express how amazing and intricately beautiful the world of Biology can be, as well as make the more boring topics enjoyable and interesting! I had a truly great relationship with my students because I enjoy breaking the Student-Teacher relationship and forming a more casual, approachable relationship built on mutual understanding and respect. I enjoy having genuine conversations with my students about their lives and interests as it gives a better indication of who they are individually. Getting to know my students also means I can better deliver customized teaching methods and materials and really get to see them grow.
