Tell us a bit about yourself.

I am a qualified secondary teacher with over 20 years of experience in the classroom. In 2017 I decided to become a self-employed teacher and tutor in Science and Mathematics. I cover KS2, KS3 and GCSE (Foundation and Higher tier). I have taught to AQA, Edexcel and iGCSE students with success. My degrees are both from Cardiff University. I have a BSc Honours in Biology and a Masters in Sport Science. My PGCE was with the Open University. My DBS is recent. I have a son who is studying A'levels. I appreciate how difficult the last year has been for the young to stay focused and motivated. My most recent CPD are Supporting Young People’s Mental Health During Covid 19 and Safeguarding Children level 3.

What do you specialise in?

Teaching GCSE Biology and Chemistry as well as KS3 and GCSE mathematics. Preparing pupils for public exams whether it be Foundation or Higher Tier. I have a great deal of experience working with SEND pupils. I specialise in building confidence, particularly in an exam situation. I am good at finding areas of misunderstanding and confusion. I unravel the problem and steadily building up knowledge, confidence and application to questions.

How do your lessons usually plan out?

My lessons are of a high quality as I am well prepared and tailor the lesson to the individual. I always make sure I have extra material for extension work. I can honestly say I have not had a disappointing or unproductive lesson.

When did you first start tutoring?

I started tutoring when my son started going to school in 2008. Previously I was Head of Science, but I decided to work part time in the same school and take time to raise my son. Once he was at school I had more time to prepare lessons and consequently tutor in the evenings.
