A bit about Charlotte D

I have worked in higher education for 6 years but I want to be able to spend more time working with students. I also have experience of B2B and B2C, working within the industry. I have a great passion for making sure students reach their full potential not only with their knowledge but also skills such as CV writing and job applications. I specialise in GCSE business studies, marketing, consumer psychology all the way up to postgraduate degree level. I also have experience of helping students with report writing, study skills and more general skills such as referencing, CV writing and applications. I think that it is important to understand that all students learn and develop in different ways. Therefore, I usually spend the very first session with a few minutes to understand the best way that the student learns through chatting and a short poll and then a discussion on what topics they want to cover and how I can help them. Following this, my sessions are very structured with knowledge and examples to help strengthen understanding. I try and make my lessons much more engaging and enjoyable through regular discussions and that way I can gauge understanding and adapt when necessary I first started tutoring whilst I was studying my Masters at university. They saw how much I enjoyed helping others that were struggling and gave me some tutorial work. I have been tutoring and full on lecturing for over 6 years now. I really enjoy seeing the development of students, especially their confidence grow over time. I enjoy learning about changes in my topics of interest. I also enjoy showing students that they are surrounded by marketing and consumer psychology all day and that once they start to understand a topic, they can see the strategies that businesses use. I try and make my teaching style adaptable towards the students own learning style. For more extrovert students I try and get them to build on this confidence and even debate with me about the topics to show a depth of understanding. With introvert students, I work on not only building their knowledge, but also their confidence. I try and make my lectures as fun as possible as I believe that students remember more information when they enjoying themselves and not just sat listening for an hour. I create quizzes, show clips, polls and have discussions. Seeing the student develop and achieve everything that they want to achieve. I really enjoy hearing back from past students when they tell me how they are getting on and how my lessons, from knowledge or more skill based have helped them. Remember that all students are different and learn differently and that it is important to help students develop the best way possible. My feedback always mention how engaging my lessons are and that they are not just sat listening to me talk. They also mention how much they enjoy being able to relate the information to more everyday examples. Ive had students that had gone on to further education and have succeeded both academically and also through their career. With teaching in higher education, I have not gone down the traditional route. However, I have a vast amount of knowledge in my area of expertise. My latest qualification is a PhD in business, marketing and consumer psychology. I really enjoyed school, I think i was very lucky to have a great variety of teachers which made everyday enjoyable. After learning that some students really struggled with school and found it hard to learn due to the teaching style, I wanted to help. I really enjoy cars and myself and my partner are currently working on a track ready drift car. I also love to watch the drifting around the UK. I really like traveling to America, and once it is safe to do so, I will be spending more of my spare time traveling when possible. Finally, I have a little dog and I really enjoy taking her to the beach. Every time we go, her face lights up like it is her first time and she gets so excited.
