A bit about Alexia M

I am an enthusiastic English teacher currently working at a secondary school. I teach all year groups from Year 7-12. I seek to motivate and support all of my students to reach their full potential. I have experience in teaching English to KS3 in line with the national curriculum and have supported many KS4 students to excel in their GCSEs. My lessons will focus on empowering students to retain knowledge. I want to ensure that my students are a step ahead in terms of what they are doing at school and so give them loads of opportunities to practice key skills in line with the curriculum. I also work hard to make my students stronger academic writers. My lessons often begin with a recap of the previous lesson, usually in the form of a mini quiz. There will be plenty of opportunities for my students to read and write in my lessons, to complete past paper questions and to ask me loads of questions whilst receiving continuous feedback from me. For me, teaching is all about empowering the learner to work independently, to be able to assess their own strengths and weaknesses and have the tools to act on them purposefully. Learning should be fun! I received a PGDE from UCL on the Teach First graduate scheme. I also have a BA degree from Warwick, in which I achieved a first. I teach the AQA exam board and students from year 7 to year 12. My favourite thing about being a teacher is seeing the look on my students' face when they fulfill their potential. English exposes students to the best of what has been thought and said, giving them the tools to become evaluative and significant citizens in society. Last year, out of a class of 25, 6 of my students received a 9 in their GCSE literature exam. I've also supported students whose first language is not English to receive grades 6+ at GCSE. The reading ages of my KS3 students often increase by 2 years every year.
