A bit about Susan H

I am a friendly teacher who likes to teach with a sense of humour and personal connection. I am calm and patient and ready to use any means necessary to help my students understand the concepts. I have over 20 years of schools of international classroom experience. In teaching, experience cannot be underestimated! I specialise in teaching in a wholistic and conceptual manner. This means that I seek to develop neurological connections in the students minds do that skills and knowledge is more deeply understood and retained. My training and experiences focus on students who often find traditional schooling too easy or too boring or too challenging. In other words, the divergent thinkers! I am not a fan of labels such as "ASD, ADHD, SEN.." etc because I believe that every person has their preferred learning style and that we are all learners, and teachers. All students have diverse advantages, disadvantages, interests and attributes that need to be supported and highlighted as they make their way through their learning journey. My lessons are never dull and I use a wealth of techniques from visual prompts through music and film and, of course, puzzles, games and challenges to ensure that the learning experiences are memorable and engaging. My lessons always begin by assessing what the student already knows or can do so no time is wasted. I have high expectations of everyone’s ability. Over the years I have continuously adding to my qualifications. I have a Masters Degree in Technology and a TEFL/TESOL/EAL (English as an additional language) qualification. I have taken training course, most recently in Maths, at Stanford Graduate School of Education. And finally, I am qualified for, and have organised, teacher training workshops for other teachers as a technology and maths coach. I am a qualified PYP (IB Primary Years Programme) co-ordinator.
