A bit about Frank S

Experienced Edexcel GCSE History and OCR A-Level. As far as topics go I specialise in Modern History, as well as some elements of the Classics. Particularly: Henry VIII & His Ministers, The Cold War, Weimar Republic & Rise of Fascism in Germany and Crime & Punishment - at GCSE. I have worked closely with the SEND department to develop approaches and methods to simplify exam skills and ensure comprehension of topics. History is my passion - end of. Well History and football, but let's not get off topic. I have been teaching for nearly 3 years and hold a BA Hon's Degree in American Studies from Canterbury Christ Church University and have also studied abroad in Chicago, USA. At present I am studying for an MA in Classical Studies. But enough of the gritty details... I am a teacher that focuses, as best I can on the needs of my students and am more than happy to adapt my approach to support you, however you need me too (be that subject knowledge, exam skills or revision). I feel I am approachable, and tend to aim for a less formal approach (than most teachers) - the aim here is to learn however you learn best - not how 'I think it should be done'. Please feel free to drop me a line if you'd like to find out anything prior. I have been told, on the sly by my students, that they love my lessons for their relaxed, and sometimes humorous nature. We are not in a world of grammar school elites, and you are certainly not a 19th century child. Teaching has evolved and so should we. My aim is to make my classroom a welcoming environment, one where you lead the debate and discussion. I do not want you to leave my lesson having learnt 'Mr. Sherwood's History' - no I want you to create your own. I aim to give you the tools, resources and skills to be the historian and to write (confidently) a history that reflects your knowledge and understanding. Here, more than anywhere else in education, you are the boss (not me). Tell me what you need, be it knowledge, exam skills, essay writing or even help with homework. This session needs to be focused on what you need and puts you in control - that's why I like tutoring, you get exactly what you need.
