A bit about Rick T

*Saturdays available* Having been in education for 17 years, most recently as a Deputy Headteacher in a large outstanding primary school, I am looking to support pupils’ mental wellbeing by building their confidence and leading to success in subjects in which they want to improve in. Having taught Year 6 for many years, I am adept at supporting every child to be as successful as they can be in the end of year reading, maths and GPS SATs. I have also been a SATs marker for over 6 years so am able to provide an insight into what is expected in the mark scheme. I think it's important to take learning on the path of a child's interests; so many skills can be taught and learnt in a variety of ways which doesn't have to be like ordinary classroom practice, which in turn will make them more memorable for every pupil. I am a keen paddleboarder in my spare time and like to take on risky adventure days to keep myself improving also. For many years I have taken Year 6 pupils on adventure weeks, which involve rock climbing and abseiling, zip lines and tree top assault courses. I build courage amongst those around me and we work as a team to be successful in every challenge. I have the ability to turn the most 'dull' learning into something children see a purpose in (when there generally is a purpose). Teaching grammar is a perfect example: how can you make learning word classes any more exciting than just learning the terms... I have a passion in finding alternative and dynamic ways to introduce topics and engage all learners.
