A bit about Syrie S

I'm a philosophy masters student with about 5-6 years of experience in tutoring. While Philosophy is my specialist subject, I am experienced and enjoy tutoring in other disciplines such as English Language, English Literature, Religious Studies and Sociology. I initially started tutoring when I was a high school student, including helping Key Stage 3 and GCSE pupils. However, the bulk of my tutoring experience comes from my university years through charity organisations such as Amnesty and St. Vincent de Paul Society which has involved teaching pupils of all backgrounds and abilities from primary students right the way through to both GCSEs and A-Levels offering weekly lessons, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. I'm friendly, enthusiastic, committed and organised ensuring that I can help students to the very best of my ability and that they may find my lessons engaging and fulfilling. Philosophy is what I specialise in having but I also have experience in tutoring in both English, Religious studies and Sociology. These have been at all ability levels from key stage 3 to A level. For both GCSEs and A Levels, the exam boards I have the most experience in are both AQA for English and Sociology and OCR for Philosophy and Religious Studies. However, I do have some experience in other exam boards and so I can accommodate for any. Additionally, I've also worked with EAL students and helped them to build their confidence in learning to speak fluent English. My teaching style involves ensuring students have core understandings of the material at hand to begin with. Once this base has been covered, I then aim to help students demonstrate their learning with lots of application such as through retrieval practice and tackling past paper questions which in my own experience, have been very efficient learning techniques. Outside of teaching, I enjoy and participate in a variety of sport such as sailing and squash. I also volunteer at charities in my spare time, all of which provide a good work life balance.
