A bit about Yusuf B

We usually have a couple of questions to start with building on previous lessons. I'm a strong believer in interleaving content, which means frequently returning to content done weeks and months previously. Then I'll ask some questions about the lesson's topic to see how much you understand it so that I can pitch it right. I'll take you through some key concepts, worked examples of exam questions, then you'll try some on your own. It'll be stretching, but I structure it so you can follow me at each step. I love how different topics in Chemistry link together! The subject really starts to make sense once you have got to grips with all the foundations, which I particularly enjoy teaching. Chemistry delves into areas which are relevant to everyone, providing explanations for colour, smells and even feelings! I also realise it's an important subject for those wishing to go into Medicine, and it is rewarding to know I can help you get to the career you want. Respond to the learner. Great teaching always seeks to understand where the student is at, where the barriers are, and how to remove them. I do that through questions and observing your thought process. Then it's important to model excellence, so that you can see what you're aiming for, and then give you the tools to get there. I specialise in Chemistry A-level. It's the most enjoyable level to teach, and I am amazed by how often students ask questions that I've never thought of! Because I work full-time teaching at this level, I have a deep insight into the exam questions and mark schemes, and know exactly what is needed to maximise your marks. As an OCR A examiner, I also have experience 'behind the scenes' and know how your paper will be marked. I really enjoy seeing the process of students initially not being confident in a topic, unsure of how to explain it and worried about their progress, to then later on tackling questions they would have ran away from previously! Tutoring allows the opportunity for targeted, personalised support, which I've seen is really effective for dealing with misunderstandings and trickier concepts. Teaching an A-level Chemistry revision course this year, one student had the following feedback, which sums up why I do it: "Amazing tutor, broke it all down simply and explained superbly. Understood stuff i have not been able to understand for many months now. Made all the hard topics very straightforward and honestly, appreciate the style of teaching and has given me tons of confidence to now go away and revise and do well."
