A bit about Eve C

Award-winning journalism graduate and fully qualified secondary school English and drama teacher from the UK. I have worked both abroad as a TEFL primary school teacher for 1 year and in the UK for 3 years as a secondary English teacher with experience in KS3, 4 and 5. I specialise primarily in teaching English language up to A-Level and have taught both literature and language up to GCSE level. I also have experience up to graduate level in journalism, teaching English at primary school level, teaching drama at KS3 level and teaching English as second language. Regular interleaved and engaging starters to help with long-term memory recall that guide into the main tasks of the lesson. These will usually consist of the gathering of any new course content or consolidating of current knowledge in the form of reading, writing or speaking tasks including lively debates, analysis, evaluations and practising vital exam board skills. All lessons are highly differentiated to meet the needs and abilities of all to make progress. I first started tutoring in 2019 and tutored individuals anywhere from the age of 4 years-old up 25 years-old for 6 months collectively, both online and in person, as well as having 4 years of teaching experience in the classroom from primary school age to A-Level. I love teaching English because it covers such a broad range of topics and skills. I find English language the most helpful because it can set students up with many basic skills that are required in a multitude of jobs and careers in life. However, English literature is so important because it teaches emotional intelligence, culture and the love of stories. I have often been told by others that my teaching style is centred around patience, great enthusiasm for my students' and their progress and highly engaging material that students look forward to learning. All of which have resulted in building positive relationships with students who become eager to impress! I love the challenge of helping students make progress and help them feel like they have accomplished something. Many of my students have often commented that they have loved their English lessons whilst I have been their teacher, as I like to find new and engaging ways to help them love and succeed in lessons and their exams. I like to help students realise that there is always a lesson or moral to be learned in their studies and in life. Many stories and pieces of literature they will come across in their studies will teach them many fundamental truths about life which they can learn to apply to their own lives and become more well-rounded and capable individuals. My students have often told me that they look forward to lessons because the content is taught in a fun and engaging way. They also look forward to seeing the progress they have made because I like to encourage them to take pride in their work and any accomplishments they have made. One of the greatest success I have had with teaching is fostering a love for reading in a student who originally couldn't think of anything worse than going to her library lessons. She had very little confidence with reading and speaking/reading aloud, but after lots of positive encouragement, hunting out genres she found interesting, and regularly practising reading aloud in a comfortable and safe environment, she now loves to read and volunteers to read in front of her peers! I currently hold a qualification in the following: (BA) Journalism PGCE - Postgraduate Certificate in Education QTS - Qualified Teacher Status TEFL Certified - Teaching English as a Foreign Language I currently teach KS3, 4 and 5 in line with the AQA GCSE and A-Level English Language exam specifications but I have also taught at primary school level for one year of my teaching career as well from ages 4 - 11. As well as indulging in different genres of literature, I love many other branches related to the arts including the theatre (I also have two years experience teaching drama at KS3 level), media, music, acting, and I also regularly attend the gym as I like to keep a balanced lifestyle with my fitness and nutrition. Baking and cooking have also become a hobby of mine due to interest in nutrition and I often look forward to programmes like the Great British Menu, The Great British Bake Off and Masterchef. After graduating I had experience of working in different environments and different employers but never really felt like I was making much of a difference in my career. I thrive most when I am helping people, especially if they feel like they are achieving something themselves as well, and this gives me a great purpose. After looking into careers in which I could achieve this goal, teaching became the obvious choice to me.
