With over 5 years of tutoring experience, 8 years teaching experience, a Secondary English PGCE, and a background in examining for AQA English Language, I am well-equipped to guide students through their KS3 and KS4 English journey. My expertise extends to working with diverse student groups, including those with special educational needs (SEN) and high achievers; challenging high achievers is an area I am particularly interested in, completing a research project on this area of pedagogy within my training year, achieving a first, confirmed this. However, I am confident working with students of all abilities: building a rapport with students and breaking tasks into manageable sections is a strength of mine, often making rather complex, extended essays much easier to approach. My teaching experience lies with AQA English Language and English Literature – the set texts I specialise with are Macbeth, An Inspector Calls, A Christmas Carol and Power and Conflict Poetry – but I am able to revise and cover examination technique with any set text for the Literature examination. I also teach IGCSE Edexcel English Language and English Literature, with similar set texts with the addition of Of Mice and Men. I am passionate about fostering a love for the English language and helping students reach their full potential. I love embarking on a learning experience with students to help build confidence and boost grades.
