A bit about Greg

I am a professional actor with over ten years industry experience. I trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and obtained my degree in Theatre from the Guildford School of Acting. I am a writer and a director with qualified teacher status and a PGCE in Secondary Drama. My first directorial production won the Pleasance Inde Award for Best Newcomer at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2017. I am a passionate teacher and work one to one as an acting and drama specialist for students of all ages. I specialise in acting technique and devising, and I am an associate artist of the award winning theatre company Wardrobe Ensemble. My technique is a collation from all forms and styles building influences from Stanislavski's system, Meisner, Jacques Lecoq, Uta Hagen, Stella Adler, Brecht and Steven Berkoff. I have been teaching Drama in Secondary education since september 2021 and have been a professional actor and workshop facilitator since 2014. I run a mixture of practical and theoretical sessions depending on the individual needs and objectives of the student. These classes include; tailored skills based technique training to firm up your vocal and physical apparatus, explanative theoretical sessions to understand lead practitioners in more depth and practical workshop style sessions in acting through text and improvisation to activate the imagination and practically explore and develop those necessary stage and screen skills. I run an open and friendly workshop style tutoring session focusing on the students' individual needs and working towards specialised objectives. I establish what it is that you are trying to achieve and then help you build the scaffolding around that objective through a personal tailored approach. My teaching style is open, friendly and relaxed with a thorough expectation for objective success and technical comprehension. I try to establish the objective in its simplest form to maximise chances of success and achievement. Simple objectives create maximised achievement opportunity and a greater understanding of art in its purest form. I love to engage with students who share the same passion for drama and art who want to apply themselves to obtaining a greater understanding of their work and practice. I am passionate about guiding students towards their objectives and feel fulfilled by the process that this success leads too. My favourite thing about being a tutor is all the wonderful students I meet and am able to work with through the exploration of drama. Teaching is a conversation which all participants learn from and I especially enjoy being surprised and impressed by everyone's individual artistic talents. Hard work pays off and seeing the development of my students is the most rewarding aspect of teaching. My teaching philosophy is based around finding the right scaffolding approach for each individual student to enable them to learn and progress independently as an artist and a drama enthusiast. No one way is the right way and exploring with an open mind and mixed practiced philosophy enables my tutoring style to attain to the many needs of many students. I base my work around my own experience, taking influence mainly popular practitioners from Method acting to physical expression. Students often feedback about my relaxed approach and thorough commitment to revealing the uniqueness in every students individual style and talent! The greatest success I have had academically has been guiding students through GCSE and A Level drama exams and helping them to develop a greater understanding and awareness of their ability as a theatre practitioner. I teach all ages. Academically I teach secondary drama ranging from 11 to 19 years of age. Outside of academia I am able to coach actors of all ages looking to develop and deepen their technique, skills and abilities in the field of drama and acting. The exam boards I have experience with is Edexcel and AUL. Outside of teaching I enjoy reading, writing and active sports. I am particularly interested in football and am a keen Manchester United Fan. I enjoy riding my bike and have completed a number of long distant tours cycling across the european continent. I enjoy meeting new people and have a warm and friendly approach to exploring new subjects and hobbies. My passion for drama and acting has inspired me to teach and develop my profession by helping others achieve their goals and dreams. Working with young talented individuals and constantly being surprised by their creative output is a rewarding practice for me as a tutor. Using what I have learnt and being able to pass on and share my own expertise has been a real inspiration. I have a MA in Acting for stage, screen and radio from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Theatre from the Guildford School of Acting and a Foundation Degree in Theatre Media Performance from Plymouth University. I am currently undertaking my Post Graduate Certificate in Education from Plymouth Marjon University, qualifying in July with Qualified Teacher Status.
