A bit about Michelle S

I am an experienced teacher of 25 years. That may make me sound old! I'm 47 and very young at heart. I understand young people, especially those who are experiencing barriers to achieving their dreams. I have a good sense of humour and your lessons will always be fun and relaxed. I will never rush you and I have the ability to adapt your lessons to match your learning style. I specialise in English, Maths and Music. Additionally, I specialise in Autism and SEMH. I am known to my friends, students and colleagues as someone who is extremely patient, adaptable and funny! My lessons start with a catch up and check in. Then, I will show you my plan for the lesson in small steps, along with your lesson objectives (what you'll learn and how). We will then discuss the plan and I'll make sure you're happy with it. We can work together to adapt any bits you're not sure about. Then we will begin! My lessons will be fun and interesting and often you'll learn without even noticing!! My lessons are interactive and I like my students to ask anything if they're unsure. If you need a breather, that's fine, but I'll be sure to get us back on track when we need to, to make sure the objectives and aims of the lesson are met. I am very understanding in terms of any worries and bad days that my students may have and I'm a good listener and problem solver too! I will recognise your strengths and needs and be quick to act upon these. Learning should be fun and it always will be if you pick me! I started teaching 26 years ago and I've been a tutor for all of these years too, in my spare time. I started out as a primary school teacher and then decided to gain experience in other sectors, including Special Education, GCSE, mental health (I worked as a teacher in a psychiatric hospital) and private tuition. I worked through the pandemic, helping students online to keep up with their studies when schools were closed. I love teaching Maths and English because we need so many different skills in our everyday lives. Yes, even Algebra and Poetry! I will always make sure my lessons link to real life and my students see the relevance in what they're learning. I love teaching for specific purposes as well, so that my student and I know exactly what we are learning and more importantly, WHY. Relaxed in approach but with a structured plan. I teach through discussion, example and practice. Sometimes, at the end of a topic and only if you are happy to, I ask my student to teach me what they've learned. It's fun and really cements that knowledge into your grey matter! My students are always aware of their aims and targets and is in charge, with my guidance, of their learning. I get to meet so many different people, from all walks of life. I learn different skills and approaches myself each and every lesson. I know that I am sharing my knowledge with another human who can achieve their goals with my help. I am proud to be a tutor. What's the point in me having all this knowledge and not sharing it?! That'd just be selfish! I get to meet so many different people, from all walks of life. I learn different skills and approaches myself each and every lesson.
