I have been in education for 8 years and am currently employed by schools as a professional tutor. I love my job and am often praised for my approachable and humorous style that helps pupils feel comfortable and confident to be brave and safe in making mistakes. I work both virtually and in person to help pupils fill knowledge gaps, push to greater depth and mastery and catch up after the COVID pandemic. Primarily a year 6 teacher, I have a vast knowledge of SATS expectations and curriculum areas, as well as fantastic record tutoring children in the 11+. As well as my qualified teacher status and PGCE, I am in my final semester of a Masters in Creative Writing.
I specialise in Maths to Key Stage 3 and English to Key Stage 5. I also have excellent knowledge of the 11+ exams and expectations.
I teach with passion, pace and at a pitch for for students that is challenging but not unachievable. But most of all, I create an environment where pupils feel happy, safe and eager to take ownership of their learning achieve their maximum potential.
I became a professional tutor In June 2020.
I love to plan creative lessons and approach concepts and learning that can sometimes be dull, with flare and originality! Whether it's adding fractions through a game of battle ships or identifying word classes from a movie script, my philosophy is built around engagement and enjoyment.
Outside of teaching I love spending time with my amazing family. At the beach, walking , skating, swimming, or if its raining ( as it often is in Cornwall) we play highly competitive games of Monopoly and Mario Kart!
Teaching is great, but tutoring is so much better. Working one to one you can really unpick misconceptions and tailor lessons specifically for a pupils needs and style of learning. Progress can be phenomenal and its not unusual for children to be struggling g and then in a short time mastering a subject.
