A bit about Clare S

I have worked as an English, Spanish and French teacher and tutor for over 20 years, in a variety of educational settings. I have taught both in mainstream education (including primary, secondary and college education, where I prepared students for SATs, 11 +, GCSE, A Level, and Functional Skills examinations) and international schools (Cambridge/Oxbridge examinations, IELTS, Academic English and foundation courses). I hold BA Honours and Master’s Degrees, European Business and TEFL qualifications. I always adopt a sensitive, approachable learning style within my teaching and I use creativity, patience and differentiation when planning and delivering my lessons, as well as employing a variety of interactive, stimulating, yet challenging, assessment techniques. I provide a safe, engaging, learning environment, which is well structured, allowing for academic success and confidence building. I love supporting and building my students’ confidence, sharing my knowledge and experience with them. My skills are based on a solid academic background and over 20 years of professional experience as both a tutor and a teacher and my teaching style reflects my passion for teaching and professional development. I am approachable and empathetic and this is reflected in my firm but fair, teaching style. When teaching, I am given the role of helping my students to grow in confidence and improve themselves academically, not only by providing answers for them, but by encouraging students to think for themselves and become more independent. My empathetic and calm approach with others, ensures that I form relationships which are based on trust and effective communication, where my students, in turn, learn to become more accepting of others, with increased confidence in challenging personal and academic situations.
