I have taught English Language and English Literature for fifteen years. I teach AQA and I'm an examiner for AQA and Edexcel so I know the specifications really well. I have had success in all aspect of the course, from achieving grade 9's to helping under achieving students gain their grade 4 or above their expected target. The text I currently teach for Literature are Romeo and Juliet, An Inspector Calls, A Christmas Carol and Power and Conflict Poetry. I have also taught Macbeth, Blood Brothers and Love and Relationship Poetry.
I was a Classroom Assistant for seven years, within this role I started to teach small groups of students. I realised I was having an impact on their education experience, so at the age of 37, I applied to go to university. It took me six years to qualify and it was the best decision I ever made. I am very proud to see the students I teach grow up to be confident and ambitious young people.
My greatest success in teaching was with a Year 11 student. At the start of his secondary experience he was not engaged with school and often got excluded. I built up a relationship with him, mainly through respecting him. He started to become very engaged in English and completed all of his work. He was predicted a grade 5, but he achieved a grade 7! On results day he informed me "he would not of achieved it if I hadn't believed in him". Very proud moment for me and a great success!
