A bit about Emily C

I began with a Certificate of Higher Education in History and Archaeology at Canterbury Christ Church University, before completing my BA in History at Birkbeck, University of London. I worked in the heritage industry while studying, working at sites such as Hampton Court Palace, HM Tower of London, and the British Museum. After graduating, I completed a Master’s degree in History at Lancaster University, before completing my Professional Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of Cumbria. I am trained to teach Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, though would also enjoy teaching History at KS1 and KS2. I have some experience with online tutoring through a Chinese company called PalFish. I worked for PalFish teaching English to KS1 & KS2 age children in China. As part of this experience, I completed a TEFL Certificate. I am currently registered to begin an Undergraduate Diploma in Irish Studies at the National University of Ireland, Galway from September 2022. I chose to teach my subject because I love it so much, so outside of teaching one of my favourite things to do is to visit heritage sites and museums. I really love to travel, and am currently building a travel blog documenting my travels. I’m aiming to visit 100 countries before my 40th birthday! One of my biggest passions is following my local football team, and I enjoy travelling around the country to watch them play. I recently began working on my health and fitness, so I enjoy going to the gym, swimming, trampolining and Nordic Walking. I also love playing and going for walks with my two Spaniels, Molly and Daisy. I have a love of musical theatre, and enjoy going to see a show, particularly my historical favourite, Six the Musical. At home, I enjoy cooking and baking, and reading a good book - historical fiction, of course! My students love that I am enthusiastic about my subject, and I’m dedicated to making them enthusiastic too. I try out new things, and try to make my lessons as fun as possible. I believe you are more likely to learn if you’re enjoying the process! I love my subject, and I hope that always comes across. My students love the fact that I enjoy having a laugh, and that I’m not afraid to laugh at myself! Learning should be fun and enjoyable. There is so much to explore in history, it should be one big adventure. I teach KS3 and KS4, with the exam board AQA. At my last school, I really focused on working with SEN pupils, and pupils that needed a bit of extra help with their work. My greatest success has been working with children who find writing difficult, to build their historical writing skills in order to successfully answer written questions. I filtered GCSE style questions down to Year 7 pupils, and began developing the skills required to successfully answer GCSE questions early on.
