A bit about Aminah R

I completed the Teach First Leadership Programme in 2020 and have achieved both QTS and a PGDE. I have experience teaching English Literature, English Language and Religious Studies to GCSE level. Furthermore, I have 7 years of tutoring experience and love working alongside students, helping to reach their targets! Being an English teacher, I am a bit of a book worm and love nothing more than encapsulating myself in a whole new world! I take a keen interest in baking and especially a sucker for cake. I am multi-lingual and can speak in English, Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi and basic Arabic. I regularly travel and enjoy visiting new places of culture and heritage. This led me to teach internationally across three different countries! I typically teach my lessons in 60 to 90 minute chunks. Within this, there is a clear plan and objectives for the lesson. The starter involves recapping prior knowledge to ensure the student has cemented learning before beginning a new topic. For the main part of the lesson, I introduce the topic and check for understanding throughout before setting a task. Towards the end of the lesson, a typical task would summarise what has been learnt that lesson. I first began tutoring 7 years ago at the age of 18 when I began my undergrad degree at university. I soon learnt I had a passion for working amongst students and never stopped! I love teaching English as it is so diverse and can has a way to attract all types of learners. Languages are fascinating, but in particular, I feel the English language has such depth to it and can really ignite a spark within the learner. There are so many aspects, including reading and writing which are so different to one another. Furthermore, I also teach Religious education. I love teaching RE as I feel it is so much more than just learning about religions. It is about exploring the ways of life for different groups of people, as well as culture and identity. It can shape your thinking and really increase tolerance and respect amongst citizens. My favourite thing about being a tutor is helping students to achieve the lightbulb eureka moment once they successfully tackle a topic they were once struggling with! Aside from really enjoying working with young people, this is an aspect which I hold close to my heart. Often times, it is easy to lose hope when one cannot understand something well. However once they finally do, it is a brilliantly overwhelming feeling for both the student and tutor. My teaching philosophy is to teach with a holistic approach. Whilst focusing on the student as a whole and their needs and learning style, learning not only becomes easy for the student but also the teacher. Getting to know your students well will naturally entail this and I feel it is the best way to learn! Students generally love how approachable I am as a tutor and my teaching style. I am fairly adaptable, therefore cater towards the needs of my student. This is something students really pick out and love!
