A bit about Caroline S

I am predominantly a Key Stage 1 teacher. I am an English specialist. I can help with writing skills including sentence construction, spelling, punctuation and grammar. I also specialise in Reading. I can teach simple and complex phonics and can then extend this through to spelling and use within grammatical structures. I can also teach strategies for comprehension to ensure a full understanding of a text. I love teaching maths at Key Stage 1 also. If you need help with number, calculations, measure, then I would love to help. I am a Primary teacher and have taught Early Years, Key Stage 1 and 2 over the last 25 years. I have worked as as Senior Manager and most recently as a Reading Lead within Key Stage 1, teaching phonics, spelling, punctuation and grammar alongside other curriculum areas. I enjoy teaching maths and love exploring pattern within number and finding efficient calculation methods. I love that ‘lightbulb’ moment! Learning must be fun and practical. I lead my students through modelled teaching to then practicing taught strategies then onto independent use. We revisit learning further into our journey with a view to ensuring it is embedded and able to be recalled. We use the learning within a range of ‘problem’ solving scenarios in order to be able to think around an issue. Above all, learning must be meaningful. I love gardening and have a small allotment at home where I grow fruit and vegetables with my daughter. I also have a larger allotment just down the road and am gradually working towards my family being more self sufficient. Home grown always tastes better! I also have a love of upholstery and one day hope to train professionally! I like to assess where the student is at in terms of their learning, reinforce gaps and make links to existing learning. We may then revisit the learning a few sessions down the line and apply it to a different situation.
