A bit about Andrea P

I am a Year 2 Computer Systems Engineering student with a passion for learning and imparting knowledge to as many people as I can help. I enjoy spending my free time exploring nature and playing the guitar. I often also engage myself with swimming and reading contemporary literature articles. I am described as an enthusiastic learner and my passion for teaching stems from tutoring my younger brothers from a young age. I plan my lessons based on the content I intend to teach for the session and the students I'll be engaging with. This helps me set and reach the target while ensuring a personal growth pace in each student. I did private tutoring for students back in Dubai when I was in High-School. I took up my first institute teaching job when I moved to the UK in December, 2021. I get to share the things I love while exposing myself to new learning experiences every day. Hearing students' perspectives on various topics amaze me and ensure that every day at work is different. I prefer employing the facilitator style of teaching as I believe this student-centred approach ensures self-directed learning with maximum student engagement, optimizing learning and retention capabilities in a child. This methodology also helps develop students problem-solving and critical thinking skills. The active interaction with students and the privilege of leading students to the active discovery of their passions and interests. My teaching philosophy is to ensure an interactive session while learning as it helps engage students to learn while developing various soft skills that they would need in the later phase of their life. I employ competitive quizzes, pop quizzes, etc., as tools to ensure the retention of content with the students. I realised this method benefits students well while dealing with KS2 students. I have found that most of my students get stimulated when asked questions and my questioning strategy causes them to think and learn better. Central Board of Secondary Education Certificate (A-levels Equivalent)- 93% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology, and English. IELTS Band 8 Certificate Currently completed Year-2 of Computer Systems Engineering. It would have to be my biology teacher in Year 12. She always encouraged us to question relevant theories and be the best we can. Her passion to impart any subject knowledge to us inspired me to want to do the same. I enjoy exploring nature in any form of activity, be it walking, trekking, paragliding, etc. I thoroughly enjoy playing the guitar and have scored a distinction in the Trinity College Exam on the Year 2 Plectrum Acoustic Guitar. I love reading, especially contemporary literature relevant to my topic of interest. I currently teach the younger and older age group of students. On the weekdays, I tutor Maths and Science to the KS-2 students (Year 6) and KS-3 students(Year 7, 8, and 9). Over the weekends I tutor the same subjects to the older kids (Year 10 and GCSEs).
