A bit about Heléna W

I am a professional tutor and a recent graduate from the Royal Northern College of Music and the University of Manchester. I undertook both degrees simultaneously on the prestigious 'joint course', and pride myself on my diligence with my teaching, and my passion for each individual student. Having achieved firsts at both universities and A*'s in all of my GCSE's and A-levels, as well as an outstanding track record in my students' exam results, I am more than confident I will be an understanding and inspiring tutor for your subjects. I teach Music predominantly, specialising in composition, piano, cello and singing teaching. Having achieved a first in two of my bachelor's degrees, I am also confident in tutoring music in its wider context for all abilities. I am also an experience Religious Studies tutor and English Literature tutor, and offer tutoring at GCSE level and below in Maths, Drama, core science and history My lesson plans are flexible and subject to change according to each students' individual needs. Often relevant exercises to topics of discussion to explore wider context and expand the breadth and depth of students' learning is an engaging and efficient method of learning, as well as applying the same skill set to direct syllabus learning. Practice questions and deep explorations into topics maintains students' interest and passion for the subject, though the way in which I communicate these discussions differ according to each students' learning habits. I first started tutoring six years ago, teaching piano, theory, composition, singing and cello. Four years ago, I started tutoring curriculum GCSE and A-level Music, Religious Studies and English Literature, as well as maths, scores science, English language, drama and history at GCSE level and below. I love nurturing students' passions for their chosen subjects, and instilling in them focused values that provide the foundations for the subjects. I strive to inspire enthusiasm for the subjects in my students, and I love to see them take their learning outside of the classroom, incorporating their own passion projects into their learning. I like to disband the teacher-student hierarchy and speak to my students as equals, giving them the space to communicate as honestly as they can without feeling intimidated. I also provide my students with consistent routines and strict exercise work, in order to maintain and nurture their learning and development. My favourite thing about being a tutor is seeing my students get excited about particular areas within their study, and seeing their engagement and improvement through their consistent practice and attentive listening. I particularly love building students' confidence in their subjects, allowing them to feel positive about engaging and contributing to projects and discussions around their subjects Learning should be engaging, fun, challenging and inspiring. I am always willing to go above and beyond for my students to find the best learning method, and I care about my students achieving the best marks. I firmly believe every student can vastly improve with a tutor who cares about their well-being and studies, and this is something I guarantee for all of my students. My students love that I take the extra effort and time into finding the right resources and areas of interest for them, and also that I put consideration into their well-being and their work-life balance. My students are often excited and inspired to practice further for their subjects because I show them their relevance in wider contexts, and I push my students to always think ahead of their current level. My students feel respected, appreciated and looked after. My students' have always achieved way above their target grades, and their progress is significantly accelerated from my teaching. More importantly, my greatest success has been in building my students' confidence to share their ideas, and to take the subjects they are passionate about further into their lives and careers. I have a first-class undergraduate degree from the University of Manchester, and a first-class degree from the Royal Northern College of Music. I have three A-levels in Music, Religious Studies and English Literature, and I achieved A*'s in all three, as well as A*'s in all of my GCSE's. I have a distinction in my piano DipABRSM, and distinctions in my grade 8 cello, singing and theory. From starting tutoring six years ago, I quickly found fulfilment in helping students achieve their goals, and became inspired by their enthusiasm. At music college, I had a particularly brilliant teacher who opened my mind to new ways of thinking about composition and life values, which has provoked a love for teaching in myself. I enjoy reading, writing music and poems, and performing in classical contemporary, jazz, pop and new music settings. I enjoy socialising with people who are passionate about teaching and have the same values of promoting equality and opportunities for all. I teach between the ages of six and forty-five, teaching individuals as well as groups of students curriculum learning and beyond. I am familiar with AQA, Eduquas, Edexcel and OCR boards, and will quickly pick up on the new specifications for different exam boards for different subjects.
