A bit about Gabriela P

Hi! I’m Gabi and I’m a Science, Maths and English tutor. I have been teaching privately and through different companies both face to face and online for the last 5 years. I’m also fluent in verbal and written Polish, English and French. I teach maths, science and French on GCSE and A-level and English as a foreign language. The exam boards I'm experienced with are: AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC, National 5 and CCEA. I teach children and adults with disabilities/special needs such as: dyslexia, OCD, ADHD, autism, dyspraxia etc. Over the years I have gotten pretty good at inspiring my students to become confident in themselves and to achieve their goals whilst working hard, stepping out of their comfort zone and believing in their abilities. I plan my lessons differently, depending on the student. I start recognising student’s learning style from the very first lesson. I ask questions about their exam board, year in school, current and target grades as well as preference for the topic on our first lesson and general aims for the sessions. These aims could include anything in the curriculum or gaining general confidence. Examples include getting better at answering exam styled questions, understanding of a specific unit such as: algebra, trigonometry, organic chemistry, understanding bonding in chemistry etc. or becoming proficient at reading with understanding or gaining courage to speak out loud in English. On the first lesson we’d prepare a general learning plan however, before every lesson I would double check that they’re happy with what we’re covering and ask if they need to prepare for any tests or assignments outside of out general plan. I enjoy planning lessons with lots of hands-on activities as I find the best way to teach is to create several different techniques to appeal to various learning styles. I often use short, interesting videos to introduce the student to the chosen topic, I would ask questions checking the understanding of the key points from the video. Then we would go onto solidifying what we’ve learnt on the video with textbook material from pictures of manuals, pdfs, or online material. I would also use diagrams and graphs I’ve researched beforehand or use my drawing pad to draw them in a real time together with the student. I always use screen sharing feature whilst annotating text and diagrams on the screen as well as the remote control option enabling the student to actively participate in the lesson. We use past papers when we want to train becoming proficient at answering exam styled questions and daily quizzes to check the understanding of the topics after each lesson. I really enjoy using games, especially to teach maths and English, I find that they get students engaged and motivated to perform better in a subject. I love working with children and adults and have experience in teaching people in challenging environments from various ages. I have taught Science, Maths, English and French on one-to one and group bases. I believe that every student has the potential to excel in their chosen field. It gives me great satisfaction to devote time to overcome students’ challenges and to design the approach personally to properly engage with everyone and make them achieve their goals!
