A bit about Meadhbh P

My name is Meadhbh(Mave) Kelly and I'm from Dublin, Ireland. I am a friendly, patient and positive person. I am passionate about teaching, learning and travelling. I have travelled a lot and lived in many places such as Dublin, Toledo, Madrid, Cádiz, Manchester and now Glasgow. I love exploring new places and meeting new people. Communicating with people brings an authentic perspective to travelling, which is why language is so important to me. I have been teaching English as a foreign/second language for the past 7 years in Ireland, Spain and the UK. I grew up speaking Spanish at home as my mum is from Spain, and I also studied Spanish at University and gained a qualification to teach Spanish as a second language. I've been tutoring and teaching for more than 7 years. My first tutoring experience was while I was still a student myself. I enjoyed it so much that when I graduated, I decided to move to Spain and work as an English language assistant in the classroom. I have since gained a CELTA qualification and an ELE(Spanish as a foreign language) qualification. Over the years, I have worked in summer schools, pre-schools, secondary schools, language academies and colleges. I love helping my students become more fluent in English/Spanish. I use my positivity in my lessons to help my students feel more relaxed and confident. Having fun is also a big part of my lessons - I want each student to enjoy themselves as this helps achieve the best results. The most important part of learning a language is communication. I encourage my students to talk as much as possible and tell them not to worry about making mistakes as that is part of the learning process. I tend to focus on error correction towards the end of a lesson. I personalise my approach to each student. I listen to what the student wants to achieve and plan around their objectives and aims. Apart from communication, I also focus on vocabulary, grammar, listening, reading and writing. I use different teaching materials such as powerpoint presentations, PDF files, videos, images, articles, flashcards etc. The most important part of learning a language is communication.
