A bit about Peter N

We start where you are stuck or with what you are finding hard. Maths is like doing a 1000 piece puzzle; the more parts you understand or 'join-up' the greater will be your overall clarity and and the more you will see of the whole picture! Over 20 years teaching experience. I have taught in many different types of school and worked with pupils from all sorts of backgrounds including SEN and home-schooled. So I am confident that I could help your child or teenager. I have been tutoring maths since 2006. I have tutored all ages from 7 to 37; who have been in school, college or seeking career change. I have also worked extensively with managed-move & expelled pupils and those with mental health issues, for example very high anxiety. I am available in the day, after school and in the evenings and on Saturdays. Currently I work as a supply teacher in the daytime, in fact since 2016. I have worked in Primary and Secondary and for the majority of the time now I work in SEN. I have been tutoring online for the past three years. Maths does not need to be one of those subjects that you hate! Seeing a tutee make progress in maths is very rewarding. When you can 'do' maths confidence levels rise, not just in the subject but across the board. Tuition enables you to make progress at much greater speed than in lessons. Again this is very rewarding. Relaxed, but with expectation that you are going to work hard. Tuition can feel like 'yet another lesson'. So, given the flexibility of a one-to-one it is important that the time is enjoyable as well as hard work. Teaching is one of THE most rewarding jobs! Being a tutor means teaching without all the classroom distractions. No matter where you are, you CAN improve and you CAN get better! I'm real - I understand if you have had a bad day I listen to the tutee and we only move on, when they understand. I am not half-hearted. To enable a tutee, who had had her teacher stand over her when she was aged 7 and tell her that she was useless at maths (& therefore by inference useless) to confidently do her GCSE and get a 6. Not only was this a great grade but it dealt with all the self doubt! To enable a boy to get on the course he really wanted to do because of his maths grade and a girl to improve her grade which enabled her to have a greater choice of courses. To listen to a tutee, who had been dealt an awful hand in life and use maths to be part of her rebuilding of her self confidence and self image. To turn a predicted 3 to a 6 in four weeks. A PGCE and a degree and life itself (so I know how important success in maths is). This should be Why do you remain a teacher? And the answer to that is.............because it is so incredibly rewarding. Making bread. Cooking. All of them. Including Common Entrance and other similar papers. Year 1 to Year 11
