A bit about Daniel T

Hello! My name is Dan, and I am a Fully Qualified school teacher who is available to teach Maths, Geography and Science from primary school age to GCSE for Maths and Science, and up to A-Level for Geography. I have two years experience working as a full-time teacher with two extra years experience working in primary and SEN schools through agencies, where I primarily worked as an LSA helping pupils with learning difficulties. With my formal teacher training, I will be able to tailor lessons specifically to your child's needs, regardless of what type of learner they are! I'm very responsive to feedback, and want to get the best grade possible for your child. Availability right now is any day, all day as I've just come back from travelling. The only restricted days are any time beyond 6pm on a Tuesday and Thursday. Thank you for reading and drop me a message! My specialist subjects in Geography (up to A-Level), Maths and Science (up to GCSE). Previous experience includes both primary and secondary ages, where I have two years experience as a teacher of Geography and additional years experience split between primary and SEN schools. Roles at primary and SEN schools mostly included being paired with a pupil with learning difficulties in order to help guide them through the work. This is completely dependent on the student, as my lessons are bespoke to each student. Every pupil learns in different ways and rates. My formal teacher training, and subsequent experience, taught me how to differentiate between pupils of all learning abilities, styles and if they have any Special Education Needs (physical and non-physical). Generally, expect be given the knowledge, be asked to write using the knowledge and be asked questions to engage deep thinking about the subject. I began tutoring back in 2016/17. I took a hiatus to become a fully qualfied teacher, where I spent two years in the job. My return to tutoring is because I have recently arrived back in the UK from travelling around South America. I am keen to become a tutor full-time as the hours agree with my current personal situation. Mathematics: For me, the greatest satisfaction is solving something I originally thought to be unsolvable. Each method is a path to the answer, and practising the subject helps you to recognise which path to take. Geography: Simply because both Human and Physical are incredibly important subjects in our world: from the geopolitics of the war in Ukraine to climate change to inequality in the UK, understanding the complex relationships in the world will shape humanity's future. Science: Similarly to Geography, Science has a huge task to help overcome the problems that humanity faces in the future. As an avid lover of space exploration, knowing that there are infinite possibilities in the universe is really exciting. Expect to build an excellent rapport whilst understanding that we are building towards a set of excellent grades in the chosen subject, as there is a fine balance between being too strict and not strict enough. I am incredibly patient, and understanding that not every pupil 'gets it', but I will make sure you understand by the end of it! :) The biggest satisfaction from tutoring is knowing that you've helped a pupil achieve the best results they can, and for them to then use this in their later life. As a geography teacher, I loved knowing that pupils were enjoying the very thing I enjoyed at school some (okay - many!) years before them. My teaching philosphy is that if the pupil is enjoying the subject, they will learn better. This is why I try to vary my lessons as much as possible, build a rapport with the student and crack a few bad jokes. In my lessons, I include media that engages pupils and aims to be in the sweet spot between being 'too easy' and 'too hard'. Pupils always tended to take to my teaching style. My previous school was an all-girls school that had a reputation for giving young, male teachers a very difficult time. I was one of the few young, male teachers that was observed to never have many issues with them. I think it is because it's obvious that I genuinely want them to succeed and I only do things that will aid them in that journey. Degrees: PGCE - Secondary Geography - Roehampton Bachelor's Degree - Geography - University of Bristol A-Levels: Geography (A) - Wilson's School Mathematics (A) - Wilson's School Chemistry (B) - Wilson's School My greatest achievement was taking a difficult Year 10 class, with behavioural issues and Special Education Needs across a number of different pupils, to the end of the year having nearly every pupil improving on their expected grades. Needless to say, despite being a difficult class, they were perhaps my favourite class. For me, this is the same as being a tutor: The biggest satisfaction from teaching is knowing that you've helped a pupil achieve the best results they can, and for them to then use this in their later life. As a geography teacher, I loved knowing that pupils were enjoying the very thing I enjoyed at school some (okay - many!) years before them. This may be divisive, but I am a huge Crystal Palace fan, and spend much of my time following them around the country for some reason. I run a YouTube channel and blog dedicated to football statistics and tactical analysis. Besides this, I attempt to make electronic music (badly), love cooking (better than the music!) and travelling - I have recently returned from a stint in South America. In my prior employment, I had experience with AQA mostly, but I am able to pick up any text book to use with the student. Year Groups-wise I have experience with all ages through previous emplyoment, from primary through to secondary. I am also available to teach school-leavers who may need to retake Maths.
