A bit about Russell B

I am a very experienced English teacher with a degree in English literature and a CELTA. I have taught all over Southeast Asia and the Middle East. I specialize in teaching English. Although I have predominately taught ESL (English as a second language) I do have some experience of teaching native speakers. I have more that 13 years teaching experience in different countries around the world, and have also taught in the UK. In addition to classroom teaching I have done quite a lot of one-on-one tutoring, either remedial English students, ESL students in preparation for IELTS exams, or online tutoring for a variety of different reasons. I have tutored a wide range of age-groups and ability levels. I consider the objectives and choose an appropriate strategy depending on the ability level of the student and the resources I have at hand. Then I develop a range of activities designed to guide the student towards achieving the objective. I try to use authentic materials and maximize student talk time. I tried to elicit rather than lecture. I also try to include as many changes in activity as possible to maintain interest. I first stated tutoring in 2008 working at a place called the Tuition Center in Leicester. It was mostly classroom teaching, but some of it was remedial one-on-one tutoring for students who had not been in the country for a long time. This was mainly ESL teaching. between then and 2020 I worked mainly overseas and it was largely classroom teaching, but I did have a handful of students that I coached one-on-one through IELTS exam preparation. These were Chinese and Vietnamese college students who wished to secure a place a universities overseas in western countries. I helped them with the four skills, reading, writing, listening and speaking. Since coming back to the UK I have been doing a lot of online tutoring. Using the European referencing system A1 - C2 (beginner to advanced) I have been using the online platform to tutor people who speak English as a second language.
