A bit about Rachel G

I loved studying RS at school and went on to read Philosophy at university, graduating with a first class honours degree. My enthusiasm for philosophy and ethics led me to train as a secondary school RS teacher. I have more than 11 years' classroom experience, including running bespoke one-to-one exam support sessions. I have also worked as a GCSE examiner for three years. This means I have a sound understanding of what students need to do to succeed at GCSE and A Level. My subject specialism is Religious Studies. At GCSE level, I have taught the current AQA full course with Buddhism and Christianity (as well as Ethics / Thematic Studies). At A Level I specialise in the Philosophy and Ethics components of the OCR specification. My experience of working as a GCSE examiner means that I understand what examiners are looking for when they assess students’ answers. This means I can work with you to develop your exam technique and improve your written responses to get the highest marks. The A Level RS syllabus covers some very challenging (but fascinating) concepts. I can help you to explain and evaluate the many different ideas and arguments in your essays. What a lesson looks like will vary depending on your needs, but I always aim to make my lessons fun, engaging and rewarding. I find that images, clips and news headlines can be a great way to spark discussions and check understanding. Exam classes will focus on applying subject knowledge and developing exam technique. This might involve deconstructing a model answer and working out what makes it a good response, or learning how to turn a sample paragraph into an answer that would get full marks. I am also happy to review your answers to mock papers to identify your strengths and areas for improvement. I want the lessons to boost your confidence so that you feel fully prepared for your exams.
