A bit about Amir T

Hi, my name is Amir. I have been tutoring and preparing students for 11+, GCSE and A-levels mathematics for over 7 years now. I am a former Centre Manager of a maths learning centre. I’ve always loved maths and I started tutoring maths and physics when I was a student at the Queen Mary University of London. I graduated with a BSc Mathematics graduate. I have experience working with various age groups (6 to 16 years) and different learning abilities including children with SEN. I treasure the opportunity of inspiring children to take an interest in something beneficial in their lives. Mathematics is used all around us and almost in every profession. When I was young, only 10 or 11 years old, my teacher would ask me to go around the classroom and help other students with their maths, which was a huge confidence boost for me. Fasting forward, before I entered the classroom as a TA, I taught a group of KS3 and KS4 students at my local community centre on weekends for a few months; also by then I had already started tutoring maths to secondary school students after-school. That’s how I discovered my eagerness for teaching especially in maths. I have a knack for building good rapport with children without compromising my position of authority, and I feel delighted when I can make a difference in a student’s understanding of mathematical concepts, for example, how to convert between fractions, decimals and percentages or something harder like 3D trigonometry! Bring on the questions!! :) My teaching methodology is based on two main things: skill development and adaptation. Initially, I create a skeleton of the most suitable skills tailored to the student’s specific needs. After which, I adapt to teach those skills to the student based on their engagement and the level of their understanding. Once those skill gaps are covered, I will reassess the student to check their retainment before moving on to the next stage or concept. Furthermore, I like to develop analytical and scientific ability along with knowledge in my students, and for that, I use a combination of resources in the form of worksheets, lesson tasks, and past papers. Last, I believe in the strong ethic of providing feedback to the parents, so that they are aware of their child’s progress regularly. Degree: BSc (Hons) Mathematics A-level: Mathematics and Further Mathematics GCSE: Mathematics and Additional Mathematics
