A bit about Ruth D

I specialise in English Language and Literature from Key Stage 3 to ‘A’ Level. I also teach English as a foreign language and have a CELTA qualification. I am a fully qualified teacher and have been teaching for over 25 years. I have a BA degree in English, a PGCE and an MA in Education. Also I have a CELTA qualification which enables me to teach English to speakers of other languages. I introduce a variety of activities in each lesson including discussion, Q&A and interactive activities such as quizzes and videos. I have always loved English as a subject and try to find new and interesting ways of presenting the subject in line with the interests of individual students. I have a varied and flexible teaching style tailored to the learning styles of my students whether, visual, auditory or kinaesthetic. I really enjoy meeting new students and getting to know them.However, my greatest pleasure comes from seeing my students improve their English skills and get their grades! My teaching philosophy is 100% commitment to my students. I always work to high standards and am fully prepared for each lesson. I always concentrate on what students ‘can do’ rather than what they ‘cannot do’ to build their confidence and self-esteem. After all lessons I set homework which I mark and then give formative feedback to my students in order to scaffold their learning . I also supply comprehensive revision notes. My greatest success in my teaching has been helping many hundred of students over the years achieve their qualifications and thus enhancing their career chances. I teach AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR and CCEA from Key Stage 3 to ‘A’ Level. My interests are walking, cycling, reading ,knitting and travelling.
