A bit about Heather S

I am a former primary school teacher who has taken a step back fom full time teaching after having my daughter. I have been working with children and young people for many years through youth theatre as well as teaching, and I love the chance to encourage creativity in learning. A fun fact about me is that before I was a teacher I had a job as a chocolatier! I have a deep understanding of the UK primary curriculum having worked in EYFS all the way through to KS2. I have a degree in English Literature and Creative Writing, as well as A levels in Philosophy & Ethics and German. I enjoy teaching maths and finding new ways to approach difficult topics through pracitcal methods. I aim to be flexible in my lessons and always respond to the needs of my students as they arise. My lessons are interactive with a range of activities to suit a variety of learners. I use assessment for learning strategies to ensure that I am consistently checking in with my students' understanding and adapting to support them accordingly. I am an engaging and understanding teacher who puts empathy at the centre of everything I do. I firmly believe that it is a privilege to work with children and young people and I take that seriously. I want my lessons to be fun as well as informative and for my students to come away feeling positive and that they have made progress. I had a difficult time in school myself and often found myself struggling in various areas. It was difficult for me to reach out and ask for help as I was a shy child without much self confidence. There were teachers who believed in me and made me feel like I could do anything I set my mind to, and this has had a lasting impact on me well into my adult life. I felt that if I could do the same thing for just one child then I would have made a positive difference.
