A bit about Monica A

My work life has seen me active in the following roles: as a peripatetic Teacher of the Deaf; as a Lecturer for students with Sensory Impairment; as an online teacher of English for non-native speakers; as a classroom teacher of German for GCSE pupils, for adults learning at the local College of Further Education and also online to speakers of other languages. My original teaching qualification gained at Manchester was as a Teacher of the Deaf, and this particular training led to qualification for mainstream teaching also - hence my being fortunate enough to be able to gain experience in many diverse roles, which has enriched my career. I specialise in German for beginners and for GCSE students, and also in English for children at primary level (KS 1 and 2) or for secondary students wanting to improve their written English skills. I gained a lot of experience working with pupils with special needs - mainly hearing loss, but also other communication difficulties. I began tutoring adults whilst still an undergraduate student living in Germany. My teaching career in mainstream college and schools spans a couple of decades. Over the last two years I have been working as a TEFL teacher online and the tuition most regularly in demand has been German. To improve one's language and expressive ability, whether in English or in a language that isn't the mother tongue, is a fantastic way of exploring ideas, increasing your confidence and expanding your potential, not to mention gaining all-important basic qualifications for work. If I can be the tutor who helps you to do that, it gives me a great buzz too. I have loved the variety in my work, across a wide range of needs and requirements. Perhaps you are working to a tight deadline, and have to cram things in quickly, or perhaps you have the chance of working on something that ripens over time? We can tackle your learning in whatever way suits your need. I will always be encouraging and never put you down! We can work out what pace you want to go at and I will adapt to that. I like to introduce topics that will interest you personally and so it helps if I can get to know you a little! Language is about communication, first and foremost.
