A bit about James D

I specialise in both English Lit and Lang at levels KS3, GCSE and A Level. I also proofread dissertations at undergraduate level. I have been tutoring for 3 years now, which means I am very familiar with the curriculums of the exams I teach, the challenges they present to my students which is important. I am good at giving my students confidence in their abilities. I specialise in supporting and encouraging students to pas their English Lit and Lang exams. I live in Bath with my family, cat and dog. I love the countryside around Bath where I can run with my Cocker spaniel, watch my son play football and cricket and in my free time, continue to read, listen to music and look after the house when I'm not tutoring. I take pride in keeping agile both mentally and physically because I very much enjoy what I do. My lessons are primarily on line now, although I do teach face to face. I am very familiar with the challenges of the Lit and Lang exams, so I focus on explaining what each question is asking and we discuss this together. I ask my students to take notes which I also annotate. I will then send my students a summary of lesson contents so they have something concrete to take away. I started tutoring 3 years ago, although my entire professional career has been connected with teaching. I managed a business language training centre for almost 20 years. Prior to this I was teaching and developing business in this area. I now like to work on line but am also happy to work face to face. I am equally content to do both. Quite simply I have loved reading books all my life. I have passed this love on to all my three children. So I love passing my enthusiasm on to my students. Sometimes it is not shared which is fine, and it is all about passing the exam. Yet my enthusiasm will always remain and has me talking and tutoring animatedly on Macbeth, Christmas Carol, Inspector Calls and more.
