A bit about Maria M

I am a native Italian speaker and fully qualified teacher/lecturer with 21 years of experience teaching a broad range of students of different ages and backgrounds. I plan my lessons according to the pupil`s learning needs and my philosophy is "Your success is my success". I believe that the stronger the connection between tutor and student, the better the results and achievements. I work intuitively and always aim to make my lessons fun, relevant, and engaging. I specialise in Italian GCSE exam preparation and adult learners. I also specialise in Academic English. I plan lessons that cover all four skills (speaking, listening, writing, and reading). However, the exact structure is decided together with the pupil according to their needs and intended outcome. For those who need exam preparation and can commit to a whole academic year, I will prepare a scheme of work and I will offer termly summative assessments and tutorials- just as I do with my students at uni/college. There will also be lessons fully dedicated to mock exams and feedback. I started tutoring in 2002. I am very proud of my culture and heritage. It is an honor to be able to share it with other people. I also love teaching international students essential Academic English and Study Skills to succeed in their chosen courses. I am intuitive and I am a good listener. I learn about my pupils, their interests, and their learning style, and observe their difficulties with the language. I then use this information to plan my lessons and build their confidence and independence as learners.
