A bit about Steven A

I have over ten years experience of teaching physics, mathematics and English to students of all ages and levels. I have taught in school, private schools and have given one-to-one private lessons. Special Offer for new students - £20 per lesson for the first three lessons. I specialise in physics, mathematics and English. I have taught students of all ages and levels up to and including GCSEs. I am also able to teach guitar. I have prepared students for Key Stage and GCSE exams. I have also taught English to non-native speakers. Lessons are done in a relaxed atmosphere. It is important to find out how the student is and what they have been up to. I try to find out what difficulties the student has encountered in their subject and then concentrate on that. We can then go through explanations and, lastly, do some exercises. I first started tutoring 15 years ago, teaching physics in school then moving on to maths and physics private tutoring. I also spent many years teaching English to non-native speakers. The biggest satisfaction I get from teaching is when a student has finally understood a topic which they have struggled with. My teaching style is relaxed but focused. Bombarding students with nothing but exercises doesn't allow them to understand the beauty of the explanation and application of a subject. I, therefore, make sure that students understand the importance of the topic and are able to reflect what they have learnt before putting their knowledge into practice. My favourite thing about being a tutor is the ability to impart knowledge and skills to others, and to see the satisfaction students get when all parts of the solution fit together. My philosophy is to make learning fun. Ultimately, I am there to explain ideas and offer feedback, and the student should feel that they have achieved something after each lesson. Students love that I do not represent an authority figure, simply telling them what they have to learn. Lessons are a two way interaction, in which both parties get satisfaction for what is achieved. The greatest success I've had in teaching is watching a student develop their skills from a young age, through examinations and on to university. I have taught students of all ages from 10 to 18. I have prepared students for GCSEs, first certificates, and all key stages. Outside of teaching I am interested in playing guitar, cryptic crosswords, reading and walking. I enjoy quizzes and problem solving. I have a Bachelors in physics and fifteen years experience in both private and state school teaching, both in England and abroad. My ability to explain concepts and a love for passing on my knowledge were the main factors behind me getting into teaching.
