A bit about Katherine L

I am reliable conscientious and dedicated. I am open minded and tolerant of all customs, values and traditions. I am patient and polite and do not mind working through things in a caring encouraging way with students. I strive to be prompt and efficient in my teaching methods. I also like to remain approachable. I do not want to make my students feel that I am judgmental or critical rather that I am encouraging and supportive. Teaching is my passion and hobby, so I am super lucky to have a job working with different students uncovering their greatest potential. I love to motivate my students and make learning a comfortable and enjoyable experience. An English Tutor with a few years of face-to-face English/Polish Language teaching, mainly working with adults at the beginner/elementary level. Earlier have completed Advanced Diploma in Teaching Assistant subjects. Recently awarded a TEFL Certified Teacher qualification. My aim as a tutor is to create in my students a deep understanding and confidence on the subject of their interest and to be able to tackle new and unfamiliar problems. My philosophy is based on the idea that learning happens in an environment of mutual respect in which the student is encouraged to think and make new connections for themselves. My experience has been that one-to-one personal tuition has a unique value to students because of the ability to resolve the students’ personal barriers to learning in a way that lays the foundations for a deep and lasting understanding of the subject. My approach varies depending on the student’s needs and learning style. However, my teaching philosophy is based on encouraging students to think for themselves, using real-world examples wherever possible. I start from topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and examples to check to understand continually. I don’t lecture students or ask them to memorize things. Nor do I do the students’ homework for them! Every student I teach has the potential to learn and thrive through my professional, friendly and reliable approach. I believe passionately in the huge value of tutoring students and take great satisfaction in seeing my students achieve their full potential. I allocate the time for a lesson that is between 45-60 minutes, really depending on the subject and the difficulty. I welcome students of any age, race/background, and level. In the past, I have mainly taught adults who are beginners or who have limited knowledge of the subject. However, I am happy to expand that and be able to help more students, whatever the stage they may be in their learning journey. I first started tutoring back in 2013 as a self-employed on a part-time basis. I want to make a difference in the lives of the adults and children I will teach and help them build trust that I am there to support and guide them every step of the way, and that's how I want my students to feel when they have sessions with me. I've always wanted to show my passion for learning as well which is another reason why I decided to become a teacher. I have patience and a caring attitude along with a kind personality which enabled me to develop positive relationships with my students.
