A bit about Tia

I am a qualified teacher who has been teaching Chemistry and Physics GCSE and Chemistry A Level for over 20 years. I have worked with AQA, Edexcel and OCR exams boards. My exam results are always among the top in my school. I have also taught year 12/13 Science and Health & Social Care BTECs. Please note: I charge £40 for A Level and BTEC tuition. In my free time, I am a Scouts leader and it gives me great pride in building the minds and characters of young people. I have had the privilege of working in Jamaica and UK. I am a chemistry specialist who deliver to KS4/5 with the ability to teach Physics and Biology to GCSE. I have worked in various schools ranging from comprehensive to academy to Grammar schools. This has given me to ability to use various teaching techniques and styles. I have also taught year 12/13 BTEC Science and Health and Social Care along with Chemistry. I usually start with the basic and relate it their KS3 and then move it onto their KS 4 and then follow onto KS5. I usually try to link the key terms to every day life which make it easy for pupils to relate and understand the concept. I have a question and answer section where I gauge the pupils understanding and grasp of concept. I use formative and and non formative assessment to gain understanding of pupils grasp of key concepts. I started to assist pupils that belonged friends and family to understand the concepts they were struggling with. Due to the positive results they started seeing in their grades I was recommended to extended family and friends . Tutoring gave me an enjoyment that I would like to continue. I also enjoying showing pupils that science is easy if they understand what they are learning . I have taught the various exam boards - AQA ,OCR , Edexcel over the years currently I am teaching AQA chemistry and OCR Biology. I have taught all the key stages but recently I have done KS4 Physics and KS4/5 chemistry along with some KS4 Biology. I am a scout leader due to my interest in young with young people. Here I have the opportunity to plan and carry out activities that builds character and team spirits. I have also been involved in taking young people to camp which builds their outlook in life and survival techniques. I also plan activities that are both fun and educational that gives the young people valuable life experience. I have also been inspired my mom who was a chemistry teacher. I also captivated by how the students admired and loved her. I also saw that pupils she had taught gain the highest grades and as a result she awarded with the best teacher. Seeing how easy she made concept for pupils and the easy they found in learning it. I have a bachelors degree in educational and professional development from Leeds Metropolitan University . I have a diploma in double option science from the College of Agriculture, Science and Education in Jamaica. I have also successfully competed my QTS from Cambridge Partnership and induction year in 2011. My results have always been in the top within Science for all the schools I have worked in. I have also got levels 4 pupils to successfully attain passing grades in my first year of teaching in the Uk. I have had pupils attending some prestigious universities over the years. I have also had success in coaching pupils during covid to obtain a grade 6 after been awarded a grade 4 initially. About all I have also made sure that the pupils love and enjoy science . I employ various techniques in my teaching. I aim to be kinaesthetic visual and Psychomotor during my lesson depending on the topics I am delivering. This enables all pupils to interact and understand key concepts and ideas. I also facilitate different questioning techniques which regularly checks pupils understanding of concept. My philosophy is to ensure that pupils understand science. I also want pupils to enjoy learning and this I do by employing various learning techniques. This makes them appreciate science . While schools employ formative assessment I use non formative assessment so as to keep them motivated and excel in class . My favourite thing is seeing pupils understanding and grasp concept. I also enjoy when pupils attain their desired grades which enables them to enter higher educational institutions of their choice. I also enjoy when they show a genuine interest and love for science while their confidence is building. I employ various techniques in my teaching. I aim to be kinaesthetic visual and Psychomotor during my lesson depending on the topics I am delivering . This enables all pupils to interact and understand key concepts and ideas. I also facilitate different questioning techniques which regularly checks pupils understanding of concept. The most important thing I love about teaching science is to ensure that pupils understand it. I also want pupils to enjoy learning and this I do by employing various learning techniques. This makes them appreciate science . While schools employ formative assessment I use non formative assessment so as to keep them motivated and excel in class .
