A bit about Bismah T

Hello, my name is Bismah and I am a Speech and Language Therapy graduate. I have always enjoyed maths, biology, and chemistry, and they were subjects I excelled in at school. I am excited to share my knowledge and experience to help and support others in these subjects. I have had previous experience working in school as an academic mentor with year 10 and 11 students to help them reach their GCSE grades. This included one to one teaching in all main core subjects, exam prep, invigilating during exams. I will structure my lessons by introducing the topic to the students and getting their initial thoughts on what they already know. My next steps would be to work through any questions or needs that are required to help strengthen the knowledge. I will also work on how to answer questions in an exam by using examples from previous exam papers and revision guides. I think visual learning can really work well as it gives the student the opportunity to process information well if aided with appropriate diagrams, tables, and charts to help consolidate their learning. Using existing past papers under timed conditions really helped me prepare for my school exams as this would give me an idea of my strengths and weaknesses in certain topics within the subject. I specilaise in GCSE Biology, Chemsitry and Physics. I also specisliae in GCSE Maths. I have two years of tutoing experience and looking to cintuine to build upon it. I love to share my knowledge, skills and tips to students to help them achive the grades they desire and make learning enjoyable for them. I like to plan my lessons out with a starter, main cocnpets and plenary. I alwsys like to get my students to think about what tey may already know about the topic so I ca build on their knwoldge through out the main teaching session. The main concept is to teach the specicified topic but also alloiwing students to ask questions, answer questions, have a go at explain what they ave learnt and being able to apply their knowledge. My methods involve the use of exam-styLe questions to help students apply their knowledge and think about the terminology and information they woud need to include. This is great practise for students. I like to make my lessons as visual as possible as I think visual learning can really work well as it gives the student the opportunity to process information well if aided with diagrams, tables, and charts to help consolidate their learning. Using existing past papers under timed conditions really helped me prepare for my school exams as this would give me an idea of my strengths and weaknesses in certain topics within the subject. I started tutoring face to face on a one to one basis as well as group setting in September 2018- July 2019. I started tutoring remotely on a one to one or three to one basis in February 2021. I love being able to share my knowledge with students and aid them in their learning to help achieve their desired grades. I enjoy seeing students being able to use their understanding of what has been taught in the session and apply their learning to exam-stye questions. I enjoy teaching science and math as these are subjects I enjoyed at school. I love being able to use visuals and videos to help consolidate students learning so they are able to retain that information and apply it to exam-style questions and scenarios. I like to find out about how what the students think their best learning style is. In my previous introduction tutoring sessions I go through the four core learning styles in the VARK model include visual, auditory, reading and writing, and kinesthetic. I use this to find the best way I can support the students in the sessions. I also use lots of examples to start the students off and show them how to apply the content to the questions before giving them some examples to have a go at on their own. I also use these opportunities to allow the students to explain their methods so they are able to consolidate that and help others if required in group settings. I enjoy being able to share my knowledge with students and find ways that I can help them understand concepts and practice questions. The sessions can be tailored to each individual student to help them achieve their goals for specific sessions which is great. Its amazing to see how students engage with sessions and the progress that is made is a short period of time is fantastic! Creating student-centered learning environments in which the student is in the driving seat of their own learning is key to ensure students are motivated to learn and achieve. They love being able to apply their knowledge and see that they can do it! They enjoy being able to have time to have a go themselves. The good rapport we build with each other in the sessions. Amazing progress at school and being able to see how the students progress throughout. I teach from year 10-11. The exam boards I teach are AQA and Edexcel.
