A bit about Louise M

I have a degree in English and history. I am very passionate about English literature, English language and history. I studied at Keele University and completed my PGCE in secondary education at Keele. My QTS was completed at a local high school where I later became a middle manager. I have also been an examiner for the biggest exam board. I currently have my own tutoring business and I also train teachers to deliver English. I have taught all of the exam boards so I am familiar with the demands of each course. I have also organised exam entries and assessed coursework components. All of my students achieve their target grade or higher. Some of my students return to study English at A level. I believe in encouraging every student to achieve their best. I specialise in GCSE English language and literature. I have taught several classes every year and therefore I have an extensive knowledge of the skills that are required. I have been an examiner for English language A level (AQA). I usually introduce the topic and then we work together to complete a sample task. Then pupils are given the opportunity to complete a task on their own. Often we will look at the assessment objectives and mark the response together. Students are then asked to comment on what they did well and then identify areas for improvement. This is performed with my guidance and support. Meta cognitive learning is undoubtedly the most effective. I have been tutoring for five years. Although, I did tutor students after school when I was working as a teacher. I enjoy showing students why English is so important. Many of the texts studied are relevant to every aspect of life. The skills that they develop are transferable and hugely valuable. The most rewarding aspect of teaching English is when a student develops the confidence to succeed. Watching a student flourish and achieve their goals is the best feeling. My teaching style adapts to the student's requirements. Every student is different so differentiation is applied when applicable. I like to promote and facilitate a friendly atmosphere where students feel comfortable and at ease. This is essential, the lessons have to be enjoyable as this encourages interaction. I love watching a student's confidence grow; I love watching them keen to tackle a challenge and succeed. It's the best feeling ever. If you teach a child to love learning, they will get the most from every single lesson. Learning provides opportunities and choices in life. Confidence gives students the means to use it. They usually enjoy the fact that I work with them, talk with them and laugh with them as they learn. My greatest success is having a pupil who achieved the highest grade in the country for English language. This is equal to 31 out of 35 of my students receiving an A* for English literature. The most emotional success was a young lady who was diagnosed with autism a week before her exam. She had been getting grades 1 and 2 and needed a 5 to go to sixth-form. After 8 months of tuition she climbed up to achieve her grade 5 and was ecstatic. B A Honours in English and history - 2:1 PGCE in secondary education- English and history. QTS (qualified teacher status). My old English teacher - he was a legend. He made it all enjoyable. I love walking, baking, reading and cycling. I also have a cat that I love spending time with. I teach all of the exam boards and usually teach Year 7 to Year 13.
