A bit about Nicola

I am a professional and enthusiastic individual with a passion for the practice of effective teaching and learning. Ensuring the value and care of all students and providing them with an outstanding education is at the heart of my teaching practice. I believe in a high-quality, diverse, and inclusive curriculum that is accessible and challenging to every level of ability. It is essential that the students I teach feel enlightened, motivated, and inspired; therefore, I am committed to supporting their development and ensuring they meet their full potential in a secure and creative environment. I have taught children with various SEND requirements, adapting my lessons accordingly. I have also completed and received certificates for CPD courses on understanding EAL, SEND, ADHD, ASD, and Dyslexia I gained my teaching qualification at the University of Manchester and I am currently a PhD History researcher. I have a passion for social history and the history of Manchester and I specialise in Moden British history. My research focuses on public health, medicine, philanthropy and the First World War of Lancashire. I teach Y7 to Y13 and also First Year Undergraduates studying History. Examples of my KS3 experience include the Romans, the Black Death and Medieval England, the Industrial Revolution, the Transatlantic Slave Trade, local history (Manchester) and Migration. My GCSE experience is with AQA and I teach, Elizabeth I, Medicine Through Time, and Modern World history (20th Century) I have experience teaching AQA History at A Level and I have taught the Tudors (1485-1603) and the Making of a Superpower: USA 1865-1975 I can also teach undergraduates who are studying social British and American history (1800-1980) and the history of Lancashire. My passion for history inspired me to become a teacher. I enjoy sharing the learning experience and ideas of the past with my students. I also believe that all young adults should have the very best education and the experience of high-quality teaching that guides them and motivates them to achieve their full potential. I am a PhD History researcher (present) I have a PGCE History: University of Manchester (2022) Withers Memorial Prize I have an MA History: Manchester Metropolitan University (2021) I have a first-class degree in Social History & History from Manchester Metropolitan University (2019) My interests outside of teaching include reading, and visiting historical buildings and national historical sites. I also enjoy, cooking and listening to music.
