A bit about Sian J

I have a degree in English Literature and Philosophy from the University of Hull. An interdisciplinary duel masters degree in Women and Gender Studies from the University of Hull and the University of Oviedo. A PGCE in Education from the University of Cumbria. I also have qualifications in teaching English as a foreign language (CELTA, TEFL, TKT's). My approach to teaching is focused on the individual. I will never tell you what to think, but I will help you acquire the skills and attributes to develop your ability in how to think. Having taught in the UK, Spain, China and Japan I like to think that my skillset as a teacher is as diverse, flexible and adaptable as the individuals I see in my classroom. My focus as a teacher is always on you - the learner. My lessons are friendly, laid-back and interesting. I will always go at your pace and provide you with the content necessary for your own individual needs. I am open and approachable so you can tailor your lesson to meet your own individual learning style. I believe the key to a successful lesson is keeping you interested and engaged. Therefore, I try to incorporate as many different learning methods as possible - discussions, individual work, group work, watching videos, reading materials, etc. Learning a new concept is like learning to swim; we'll start off in the shallow end and gradually get deeper. Part of the learning process involves becoming more autonomous - You'll gradually need me less and less as time goes on. Soon enough you'll be diving straight in at the deep end!
