A bit about Phoebe F

I teach Biology, Chemistry and Physics at GCSE standard, and Biology and Chemistry at A-Level standard. I have taught all exam boards including AQA, Edexcel and WJEC. My speciality is Biology at any grade - I am a Plant Sciences student at The University of Sheffield. You will struggle to find someone more passionate about their subject; I have always loved Biology and am always keeping up to date with new research, especially about our environment. I believe it is essential for a teacher to be passionate about their subject to be accurate in what they are teaching, but to also pass on some of that passion and hopefully inspire a real love for whatever subject they are teaching. Because after all, you can teach someone what they need to know for their exam but to guarantee an exceptional grade, you need to love what you're doing. And if anyone can convince you to love science, it's me. The first lesson is all about getting to know the student and figuring out how they learn so that they can benefit the most. We then prioritise topics, talk exam technique and revision techniques. There will be little quizzes along the way but that is only to keep track of progress. My lessons are mostly informal whilst making sure that the student is getting the most out of their session. I remember being very stressed and anxious about exams so I'm here to lighten the load by making my students feel more confident about their subject knowledge and exam technique. I started tutoring when I was 16 and have been tutoring ever since! I have a total of 4 years experience, am fully qualified (I have undergone training including lesson delivery, safeguarding and behaviour management) and have worked for multiple companies including The Tutor Trust and Tutor Right. I have also worked in a secondary school where I have been able to learn about behaviour management and student-teacher relationships. I have lots of experience both online and in-person and am very confident in my abilities to make sure students get what they need out of my sessions. Outside teaching, I enjoy being outdoors (especially exciting for a plant scientist!), music, art and fitness. I think it is so important to balance your time with school and extracurricular hobbies and interests. It is hard to not base your self-worth on exam grades, especially when you're in school. Having interests outside of your studies will take that pressure off of exams and ultimately make you perform better - so I value my interests outside of teaching and I hope you value yours outside of your studies! My name is Phoebe. I am from Sheffield and I am an 'Integrated Masters in Plant Sciences' student at The University of Sheffield. I love music, art and fitness. I'm happiest in nature or at a gig and am very passionate about the environment and social justice.
